Pelaw Grange Greyhounds Stadium Facilities

When you travel as much as we do, you soon get to know value when you see it, and in our experience the further north you go, the cheaper it gets. The north-east is renowned for a cheap night out, and the promotions on offer at Pelaw Grange can mean a trip to the dogs for what you’d pay for a pub meal.

The Six Pack deal is an excellent example of this, £6 for admission, race card, 2 drinks, jackpot bet and free return admission. A few tracks we’ve reviewed, it costs more for 1 drink at the bar than this whole night, so it gets our vote.

However, our favourite is the Sunday night action and mainly because you can get a Sunday dinner, but in the evening. Ideal if the Saturday night was heavier than expected and you had a lie-in. Serving from 4:30 till 7:30 you can enjoy a full carvery offering. The Panorama Restaurant, as its name suggests, offers excellent views of the track and there are many TV monitors, so you can watch the replays. A handy Tote Messenger Service will take your bets and return with any winnings, leaving you to enjoy your meal in comfort.

Sponsoring a race can be a unique way to celebrate an occasion or to publicise a cause or charity. Once again Pelew Grange shows great value, only charging £25 for this, the price is £50 or even £100 at the majority of tracks we have reviewed.

Pelaw Grange has a good online presence with an above average website and a Facebook page which lists all the events and results as well as displaying any promotions. Another example of the great community feel is the venue’s use of Flickr to show the winners, this service is chargeable at some tracks.

Pelaw Grange probably deserves a worthy mention as one of the most unusual named greyhound stadiums that we have reviewed. Nearby country house, Pelaw Grange, was the inspiration for the name, similar to how UK bookmaking giant Ladbrokes took their name from Ladbroke Hall in Warwickshire in 1902. The history of Pelaw Grange is surprisingly surrounded by mystery with few factual accounts remaining, but it is believed the course was built by George Towers in 1944. The Durham area was well renowned for its working-class prosperity and as the local mines boomed, so did the popularity of the unlicensed track. The modern-day history of the venue is much easier to tell, current owners Joe and Joyce McKenna took over the running in January 1965. 2005 would prove to be a historic year in the life of Pelaw Grange, after sixty years of being a flopper track, it would become licensed. The first official race was taking place on the 25th of August 2005. The future of the stadium looks secure with the venue agreeing to host ARC (Arena Racing Company) races every Sunday night.

The Best Site for Pelaw Grange Dog Racing

If we had to pick a venue that epitomises the sport of greyhound racing, then Pelaw Grange would undoubtedly be in the top three! A family-owned business that puts punters before profit and offers excellent value for money.

The facilities at Pelaw Grange greyhound track are certainly not the most modern, but the retro feel of the venue only adds to the experience. Sunday dinner at £8.50 offers good honest food that won’t break the bank.

While Pelaw Grange dog track racing only takes place on Saturdays and Sundays and Bank holidays, it is a case of quality over quantity, and every meeting is run like clockwork. This is to be expected with the stadium being with the same owner for over 50 years. There are on average, 12 races per meeting, which again just underlines how cheap it can be to participate in Pelaw Grange greyhound betting at the stadium.

If you want state of the art, modern experience, there are better choices than Pelaw Grange greyhound stadium. If, however you want to experience a venue run by racing enthusiasts, for racing enthusiasts, we’d be surprised to hear of any better. The dogs are well looked after, the passion for the sport is evident, Pelaw Grange gets our vote.
